Privacy

Exceptional Lighting is a showroom at 142-02 Liberty Avenue, Jamaica, NY 11435. This page explains what this website keeps about you, why, and what you can do about it. In short: we keep only what the shop needs to work, we never sell it, and nothing you do here is tracked for advertising.

What we keep

Your account

If you open one: your name, your email address and your password, which is stored in a form nobody can read back, us included. If you turn on two-step sign-in or a passkey, we keep what they need to check it's you.

Signing in with Google

Google tells us your name, your email address and an ID for your Google account. Nothing else: not your Google password, your contacts or anything else in your Google account.

Your cart

The pieces you add and how many. If you aren't signed in, a cookie holds a random code that ties the cart to your browser, and a cart nobody has touched for 30 days is deleted. When you sign in, the cart moves into your account.

Your order

Checkout takes no payment and stores no order. It writes a message with your cart's reference, the pieces, and the name and note you type, which you send to the showroom yourself over WhatsApp or email. The name and note only go into that message; they aren't sent to this website.

Visit records

Like most websites, our server notes each request: the address it came from, the browser, the page and the time. We use these records to keep the site secure and to find faults, and they are overwritten as new ones come in.

Cookies

We only use the cookies the site needs to work, none for advertising or analytics:

  • a session cookie, which keeps you signed in as you move between pages;
  • XSRF-TOKEN, which stops other websites from sending forms in your name;
  • cart, which keeps a guest's cart for 30 days;
  • appearance, which remembers whether you chose the light or the dark look;
  • locale, which remembers the language you chose;
  • a remember-me cookie, which keeps you signed in on that device until you sign out. Signing in with a password leaves it out if you untick “Keep me signed in”.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser, but the cart and signing in won't work without them.

Who else sees it

We don't sell or rent your information, and we don't share it for advertising. A few services handle parts of it for us:

  • Amazon Web Services hosts the website and its database in the United States;
  • Google, if you choose to sign in with Google;
  • WhatsApp or your email provider, when you send your order through them;
  • the service that delivers our emails, such as the one that confirms your address.

The showroom's staff can see carts in our admin system, so they can help with your order. We will also hand over information if the law requires it.

How long we keep it

Your account stays until you delete it. Deleting it removes your details and your cart from the site. A guest's cart goes after 30 days without changes.

Your choices

You can change your name and email address, or delete your account, from your account. To see what we hold about you, correct it, or have it removed, email info@exceptionallighting.com or call +1 (551) 755-1150.

Children

This website isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly keep information about them.

Changes

If we change how we handle your information, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
